This is genuine lapis, it was probably a lighter blue, and it has been stabilized much like turquoise is.  While going through stabilization, color is added to enhance the blue already there.   These have a rich royal color, with lots of gold pyrite showing, there is also a bit of blue shadings as well, gives them a streaky denim look!   Nice size, even shape.  12mm across by 16mm long.
